Sharing how the tribes of Dan and Ephraim can symbollically represent Satan, and by Revelation 7:4-8 intentionally not including them on the 144,000 list which speaks of believers and their being able to go to the new heaven and new earth above; we can learn that Satan is also not above – in addition to what Holy Scripture states regarding his judgement and literal destruction.

Begin

There are a total of 14 tribes related to Israel if one counts Ephraim and Manasseh (Joseph’s children) with the original 12 tribes.

What is disturbing is that Revelation 7:4 tells us the 144,000 elect (symbollic for born again believers) come from ‘every tribe…of Israel…’ – however two tribes are missing in the list!;

• Dan – an original tribe is missing
and,
• Ephraim – a tribe from Joseph is missing.

Here is the list given in Revelation 7:4-8;

And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,
12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,
12,000 from the tribe of Gad,
12,000 from the tribe of Asher,
12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,
12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh,
12,000 from the tribe of Simeon,
12,000 from the tribe of Levi,
12,000 from the tribe of Issachar,
12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,
12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,
12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.
Revelation 7:4‭-‬8 ESV

The missing tribes of Dan and Ephraim can be seen to metaphorically represent Satan in that;

Dan is compared to a serpent and viper;

‘“Dan… one of the tribes of Israel… shall be a serpent in the way, a viper by the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that his rider falls backward.’
(Genesis 49:16‭-‬17 ESV)

Satan is also referred to as a serpant in Genesis 3:1, 3:14, and Revelation 20:2.

Ephraim is the younger out of Manasseh and Ephraim whom both come from Joseph.

The people (symbollically Israel himself here) sadly tended to constantly put Ephraim (symbollic for Satan) before Manasseh (symbollic for Messiah (Christ));

‘So he blessed them… Israel… he put Ephraim before Manasseh.’
(Genesis 48:20 ESV)

If we see Ephraim (the younger) as symbollically representing Satan, and Manasseh representing the older creation being the Messiah (Christ) whom was with G-d in the beginning (re: ‘Word’ = Christ; John 1:1 NWT), and was also involved in the creation of the earth as the agent for G-d (re: ‘wisdom’ = Christ; Luke 7:34-35, Matthew 11:19, Proverbs 8:12, 8:22-31) – this metaphorical find relating to Ephraim will become quite relevant also.

The people (Israel in this instance) tended to put the younger (Satan; i.e. idolatry) before the older (Messiah; Christ – the way of Hashem (the LORD) John 14:6).

This is also true of the amount of great many people in the world whom go after Satan and the forbidden fruit that he has left behind.

The younger Manasseh (symbollically Satan) was due to be greater in the sense of how many people belonged to him (i.e. his following), as opposed to the few who find the way to eternal life – believing in the risen king Messiah (Christ) (Matthew 7:13-14).

‘…his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.”’
(Genesis 48:19 ESV)

So why are these two tribes deliberately missing from the list above?

To symbollically show that Satan is not located above in the new heaven and new earth – in addition to what Holy Scripture has already communicated to us about his judgement and literal destruction long ago at Armageddon (Judgement Day).

All of the 144k (symbollic for believers) are able to go wherever the Messiah (Christ) goes – being the new heaven and new earth which are above (ref. Isaiah 65:17, 65:25, Revelation 21:1, 21:10, 14:17);

‘…It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes….’
(Revelation 14:4 ESV)

With the exclusion of the tribes of Dan and Ephraim which metaphorically can represent Satan in this instance, we now see that Satan is not above, nor on the earth, and not below – as the underworld was emptied and destroyed also (Revelation 20:13-14, Ezekiel 32:13, 32:15, 29:11; forty years representing completeness, as in the exodus)).

Hoping it is fruitful with you and may the Holy G-d bless you beyond maximum; believing in His risen son Adonai Yehoshua HaMoshiach (the Lord Jesus Christ). Amen.

Shalom.
