11.May.2022 – V3 Explanation updated to better demonstrate how mankind are metaphorically portrayed devouring Satan. This also demonstrates that the beast of (revelation 13, 17, and 19 especially are literally mankind of flesh of this earth.

Brief Summary

This chapter of Ezekiel 26 peaceably shares how:

• Satan was judged and literally destroyed (V3-5, V15-21)

• The pit/Sheol/Hades were completely emptied of the dead souls that existed in it and was also literally destroyed (V8-V14).

• and that, peaceably, all who follow Satan are liable for judgement (V6)

Below is the commentary on the topic.

Ezekiel 26 Explained: Satan’s Literal Destruction (Commentary)

V1
The chapter begins and let’s us know it will be speaking of destruction, with the eleventh year (11) and the first (1) day of the month numerically equalling 12 (6+6).

From V1-V7, Tyre has been referred to in a singular sense, and has been addressing Satan in this chapter.

From V8-V14, Tyre takes on the form of a city, and looks to be used as an alias for Sheol (Hades).

V2
Satan (Lucifer) is referred to here as Tyre.

Satan thought he would acquire some more followers from Jerusalem and thus be replenished (this might have even been circa 70ce/ad).

V3

Ezekiel is a metophorical book, here in 26:3 it says G-d stated that many nations will rise against Satan.

This is represented just as we see in Isaiah 27:10-11, where the peoples of the nations (united land) are represented by a single calf (beast).

The calf (beast; united land) is stripping the branches of the fallen dry tree (Satan) which had been set on fire (judged) by angels (women) of any forbidden fruit remaining;

We see this in a similar metaphorical account in Revelation 17;

The people (Revelation 17:15) of the beast (Revelation 17:16) strip Satan’s branches, and make him desolate and naked as they devour his flesh and burn him up with fire (with their judgement; being given to wickedness (Isaiah 9:18-19) and of no discernment (ref. Isaiah 27:10-11) – they unawares deem him a speechless idol that cannot teach (ref. Habbukak 2:19 ESV) as they partake of any forbidden fruit that remained. They are unaware he has come to a literal end.

We see other symbollic accounts of beasts (mankind) eating the fallen over tree (fig. Satan) dead tree carcass of Satan (Ezekiel 32:4-11).

V4
We see the aftermath of Satan being destroyed, much like in the referenced symbollic accounts – where he is left as a bare rock.

Just as he was a fallen over dry tree who was burned with fire by angels (‘women), being a snare for mankind (calf) eating any forbidden fruit that remained on the branches (Isaiah 27:10-11);

As a bare rock (barren and desolate), mankind still flock to the figurative disaster site where Tyre (Satan) once was, and be trapped in nets (judged for consuming any left over forbidden fruit).

V5
Any forbidden fruit leftover from the destroyed city of Tyre, which is now a bare rock, is deemed plunder for the nations – biblically prohibbited though (Revelation 13).

V6
All who follow Satan are liable for judgement, by the sword (word) of the Messiah (Christ) (Revelation 19:13, 19:18-20).

From V1-V7, Tyre has been referred to in a singular sense, and has been addressing Satan in this chapter.

From V8-V14, Tyre takes on the form of a city, and looks to be used as an alias for Sheol (Hades).

V7
Christ (a.k.a Nebuchadnezzar) is sent to judge and destroy Satan (a.k.a Satan).

V8-V12
Here the Messiah (Christ) is referred to as King Nebuchadnezzar, who judges both those in Sheol (Hades) and the Sheol (Hades) itself.

V13
Sheol (Hades) is now barren, and there are no songs heard in it.

Satan was literally destroyed as per the above verses (V3-V4).l, and did not go back to an empty underworld;

It is noted that sinners used to go to Sheol, and Satan was there once, until he was released and went to his judgement and destruction.

In Isaiah 14 it is noted he played a lyre and here in Ezekiel 26:13 it is noted that there is no longer any song or sound of the lyre.

V14
Sheol is now a bare rock (destroyed), and is also a place for spreading nets; the place where the dead are caught from above in the new earth after they die, and become babies on this earth.

V15-V18
Now we see Tyre refers to destroyed Satan, much like how fallen Babylon in Revelation 18 also refers to destroyed Satan also.

The people of the nations (coastlands) trembled at the day of his fall.

V19
Satan has been made a desolate city, like a city that is not inhabited (no one can take refuge in him anymore).

V20
Being a destroyed city, it says Satan was then sent with those who go down to the pit (Sheol) – that is with the dead, and that he as a desolate city, will not be inhabited (taken refuge in).

We learn in Ezekiel 32:31-32 that Satan (a.k.a Pharoah) was laid to rest where the slain go – and that ever since the pit/Sheol/Hades was emptied and thrown into and destroyed in the lake of fire; this earth is where the dead from above now come, ‘the second death’ (Revelation 20:14).

V21
The chapter ends by it confirming Satan’s destriction at Armageddon was literal;

I will bring you to a dreadful end, and you shall be no more. Though you be sought for, you will never be found again, declares the Lord God.”
