11.May.2022 – A Literal Destruction section updated with Revelation 17 support

Subject Passage;

¹⁹“For thus says the Lord GOD: When I make you a city laid waste, like the cities that are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you, and the great waters cover you,
²⁰ then I will make you go down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, ²⁰and I will make you to dwell in the world below, among ruins from of old, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will set beauty in the land of the living.
²¹I will bring you to a dreadful end, and you shall be no more. Though you be sought for, you will never be found again, declares the Lord GOD.”
Ezekiel 26:19‭-‬21 ESV

This passage shows us three things;

• Satan’s destruction was literal
• Satan Is Not In The Underworld
• Satan Is Thus Not In The New Heaven and New Earth

A Literal Destruction

Verse 19 shows us his destruction, where he is described as a city laid waste, uninhabited – much like the symbolic passages found in Revelation 18, and symbolic ‘tree’ passages of Ezekiel 32:3-7, 39:4.

With this, verse 21 shows us again that Satan came to an end, and that he would never be found again, even if sought.

This is very important, as the next heading will show us that Satan was judged and destroyed on this earth in the fire of Armageddon (Revelation 20:9-10) and thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur – which is this earth here (Revelation 21:1, 15:2).

When it says in v.21 ‘…Though you be sought for, you will never be found again, declares the Lord GOD.”’ (ESV)

This stands given;

•the literal death this subject passage communicates along with supports
and thus logically,
• eventhough he was laid to rest on this earth, on this very same plane as those people in Armageddon (Rev 19:20, 20:9-10; ‘beast’ is nations) – which is where mankind of flesh are today are today (here) (ref. Revelation 20:13, 21:8); there is no communication, visitation between mankind and the created spirit god Satan who was judged and destroyed.

We again see this in a similar metaphorical account in Revelation 17; The people (Revelation 17:15) of the beast (Revelation 17:16) strip Satan’s branches, and make him desolate and naked as they devour his flesh and burn him up with fire (with their judgement; being given to wickedness (Isaiah 9:18-19) and of no discernment (ref. Isaiah 27:10-11) – they unawares deem him a speechless idol that cannot teach (ref. Habbukak 2:19 ESV) as they partake of any forbidden fruit that remained. They are unaware he has come to a literal end.

These further show us that the verse is true, and that it was a literal destruction – more support excerpts found at; http://www.orthodoxmessianicjudaism.com/2022/04/17/satans-lucifers-judgedment-ashes-no-more-forever-peaceably-shared/

Satan Is Not In The Underworld

Verse 20 shows us that Satan did not go to the underworld (pit, sheol, hades).

The underworld was destroyed when it was thrown into what is known as the lake of fire and sulfur, and this lake is this old earth where we are today (Revelation 20:14, 15:2, Isaiah 66:24).

In context Scripture shows us that after Satan’s judgement (literal destruction as described in the notes for verse 19 above) in the fire of Armageddon, he was thus thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur instead of the underworld (Revelation 20:9-10).

The broad plain of Armageddon which is described in Revelation 20:9-10 assists us in seeing that it was the resting place of Satan, this earth where we are today;

‘…You will fall on the open field and not be gathered or picked up. I will give you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the sky.’
(Ezekiel 29:5 NIV)

‘And I will cast you on the ground; on the open field I will fling you… of the whole earth with you.’
(Ezekiel 32:4 ESV)

Why is this, why the earth (lake of fire and sulphur) and not Sheol/Hades?

After Satan’s destruction in Verse 19, it states he was to go with those who go down to the pit – however, the underworld (Pit/Sheol/Hades) was destroyed and emptied of all that was in it as we read later in Ezekiel 32:15 (Pit/Sheol/Hades fig. ‘Egypt’), and also Revelation 20:13-14; ‘a spiritual place destroyed by a spiritual firey judgement’.

As the underworld was destroyed, those who go down to the pit (deep parts of Sheol/Hades) now go here to the lake of fire, which is now known as the second death (Revelation 20:14) – a place where ‘…wickedness burns [figuratively] like a fire…’ (Isaiah 9:18 ESV), where ‘…people are fuel for the fire [wrath/judgement/wickedness]…’ (Isaiah 9:19 ESV) and this is ‘…the wrath [judgement] of the LORD…’ (Isaiah 9:19 ESV).

Isaiah 66:24 confirms such a description with similar elements within it.

The second death, is the lake of fire, and the lake of fire is this old earth [Recommended Reading: Afterlife Realities…].

We know that the [plain] lake of fire is this old earth, as those of mankind who followed Satan and fought at Armageddon here were thrown in to the [more wicked] lake that burns with fire and sulfur – without dying  (as they are reincarnated as flesh and blood, and are not spirit creatures);

When is says they were thrown into the lake, this means there was a transition and allocation of judgement description from the time of Armageddon onward, for those who recieve the mark of the beast (Revelation 19:19-20, 20:10) – the lake is also mentioned here as the second death (Revelation 20:10, 20:8).

Ezekiel 32:11-14 also confirms that the pit/sheol/hades were destroyed as deceased mankind nolonger go there anymore;

After being judged by the sword of the Messiah (Christ), these ‘beasts’ (people) ‘beside many waters’ (of many nations) are eventually destroyed here (they perish).

From here, it says not a foot of a man or the hoof of a beast will trouble them – and this refers to how people that die here are not figuratively walked on by living things here, as they are in the underworld below.

Rather once mankind perish here, their water is made clean.

It is this, and all that we have up until here, that speaks of better conditions above (Scripturally) in the new earth for mortals (Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:1).

This is the extent of mortal mankind’s travels – that is unless they believe the gospel and they then live forever above.

Satan Is Thus Not In The New Heaven and New Earth

With this when it says,

‘…I will set beauty in the land of the living….you shall be no more…’ (ESV)

The land of the living is a phrase for a place – being the new heaven and new earth (Psalm 27:13).

As Satan is not in the underworld but was judged and was literally destroyed in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone – this earth; he is also not in the land of the living either.

Hoping it is fruitful with you.
