16.May.2022 – Updated. Explanation reinforced with more references from Matthew 24. Same overall Scriptural context with regard to the end of the world having already taken place.

Brief Summary

Sharing how Holy Scripture tells us that the ‘end of the world’ would be circa 69CE/AD.

The Messiah (Christ) said that he would return within circa forty years of circa 30AD/CE, and that even the temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed around this time.

Messiah (Christ) Said That He Would Return Within Forty Years Of 30AD/CE

Just as the temple was said to be destroyed within 40 years, so too was the return of the Messiah, and also of the first resurrection of the elect saints (believers).

‘…the buildings of the temple. …Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”…
(Matthew 24:1‭-‬2‭ ESV)
‘…they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory….
And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
(Matthew 24:30-31 ESV)
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
Matthew 24:34 ESV
(also see Mark 13:1-2, 13:26-27, 13:30)

In Matthew 24:1-2, 24:30-31, 24:34, the Messiah (Christ) is recorded as having told us that some of the generation whom were with him, would still be alive to see and/or be present for the following things;

• the return of the risen Messiah (Christ) for;
• the first resurrection of the faithfully righteous (Revelation 20:4-6), and
• the destruction of the second Temple in Jerusalem (Revelation 20:7-10) etc.

These things are accounted for as all having happened when Christ would return in Matthew 24:1-2, 24:30-31, 24:34.

The first resurrection as mentioned above happened before the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, which happened circa 69AD/CE.

This event is referred to as Armageddon (Revelation 20:7-10).

If one cares for finer detail when reading Revelation chapter 20 – 1,000 years is allowed to be translated as a day (ref. 2 Peter 3:8) – like ‘a day hold in prison’. This might assist you in interpretation.

Mark 9:1 And The ‘Spiritual’ End Of The World

Peaceably, Mark 9:1, Matthew 16:28, Luke 9:27 agree further when they also state that Christ (Messiah) would return before the generation that he had spoken with would pass away;

And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
Mark 9:1 ESV

One such disciple from that generation who would still be alive here at the second coming of Christ (Messiah), was mentioned in John 21 – where it says;

‘…“Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?…
So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.’
(John 21:21‭-‬24 ESV)

The return of the Messiah (Christ) was spiritual like ‘lightning’;

For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Matthew 24:27 NIV

Lightning (G796) in Matthew 24:27, just as the angel that appeared back at the tomb where the resurrection of the Messiah (Christ) took place, had an overall appearance that features the same Greek word (G796) in Matthew 28:3 which is translated into English as lightning;

His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
Matthew 28:3 NIV

The second return of Messiah (Christ) perhaps being circa 70 AD, was at time period of the destruction of the second Temple – within a biblical generation (40 years) as per Mark 9:1, Matthew 16:28, Luke 9:27.

The devil having been being ‘buried’ (Isaiah 14:20), on a ‘sickbed’ (Revelation 1:20), described as a silent, ‘lifeless stone’ that cannot even ‘teach’ (Habukkak 2:19 ESV), and rendered unresponsive and immobilised in the lake that burns with fire (Revelation 20:10) and thus ‘destroyed’ (Ezekiel 28:16 NIV) – at this time (Armageddon).

What about a peaceful earth and the return of the Messiah where he would rule on earth?

Peaceably, such is not found in the Holy Scriptures.

What one will find though is that the correct interpretation is that ‘peace can be found above in the new heaven and new earth (Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:1), where there is even a new Jerusalem’ (Revelation 21:2) which is incredibly large in size (Revelation 21:16-17). This is where the Messiah (Christ) rules mercifully, as well as from heaven on behalf of G-d. There are many other nations in the new earth whom sadly did not believe when they were in this old earth, however they benefit from the goodness which flows from new Jerusalem (Revelation 21:24, Zechariah 14:9, 14:17-19).

This thus means that any concept of what ‘judgement day’ represents, must be seen as spiritual here, as the new heaven and new earth are actual places above where there is genuine peace (ref. Isaiah 65:17, 65:25), and this [old] earth is a place where sin and lawlessness are rampant;

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:15 KJV

‘For wickedness burns like a fire…Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is scorched, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no one spares another.’
(Isaiah 9:18‭-‬19 ESV)

And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
Isaiah 66:24 KJV

The End Of The World Was A Long Time Ago

With Holy Scripture telling us that the Messiah (Christ) would return a very long time ago during the generation he was then speaking with on this earth during his walk (Mark 9:1, Matthew 16:28, Luke 9:27), we can come to an understanding that the actual [spiritual] ‘end of the world’ and judgement day has also taken a very long time ago as well.

Revelation 20:11-14 describes the great judgement of all the dead who were awaiting judgement just prior to the end, as is Matthew 25:31-33, 25:41, 25:46, and Ezekiel 32:4-15 perhaps tells us this all happened within a very short time period.

It is referring to the emptying of these dead people from underworld for judgement, and also the ‘destruction’ of the underworld (aka. Death, Sheol, Hades, The Pit etc.) which was rendered void, mute, and obsolete as it was thrown into this earth (the lake of fire);

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.
Revelation 20:14 NIV

This earth (lake of fire) is now the last stop, as there is not any underworld.

A person goes upstairs for existence (Isaiah 65:17, 65:20).

Believer’s in Messiah (Christ) are graced with everlasting life instead of mortality above, and this is why the gospel (good news) is referred to as ‘…the everlasting gospel…’ (Revelation 14:6 KJV), forevermore.

Hoping it is fruitful with you.

May the Holy G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: bless you beyond maximum believing in His risen Son the Lord Jesus Christ (Adonai Yehoshua/Yeshua HaMoshiach). Amen.
