Brief Introduction

With the written clean and unclean food laws which are found in places such as Leviticus 11, there are services such as the Orthodox Union, Kosher Australia, and Kashrut Australia which can assist in recommendations on acceptable food and drink items.

Kashrut Australia (www.ka.org.au) is given mention, for its expansive food directory, as a reference tool in your quiver.

Begin

ka.org.au provide a product search feature, which advises a person as to whether a food item is kosher or not.

The product directory is a guide of sorts of reviewed food and drink items, is evergrowing, and can be accessed freely at www.ka.org.au .

The directory also provides its recommendations on food and drink items that may not have a ‘hechsher’ (a stamp of endorsement logo) on them, and such can be of great help if living in areas that do not deal primarily with kosher products.

Food items are investigated to see if they are acceptable, and such investigations might also consist of;

• where the food was made?

• what other food items share the same food equipment (e.g. ovens), if any? etc.

The KA product directory is compiled by scribes and/or Pharisees, and the relevant instruction from the risen King Messiah (Christ) himself is to hear and do – (contextually after weighing all is in accordance with Torah Law) – what the scribes and Pharisees say;

‘Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, so do and observe whatever they tell you…’
(Matthew 23:1‭-‬3 ESV)

Note: It’s good to be cautious, and double check. Items like bread can be made at home quite cheaply using flour etc. if you have access to cooking equipment.

Hoping it is fruitful.
