Brief Summary

This explanation aims to show that when the angel of the LORD says such things as ‘I am… God’ (Genesis 31:11, 31:13) – that such is simply forwarding the words of God, and not a claim that the angel is making for itself.

We have already learned that the angel of the LORD is not necessarily the same being (e.g. is not Christ) in every instance that it is mentioned – from the article which explains that the angel of the LORD in Luke 2:9, 2:11 cannot be Christ as it was informing men on earth that Christ had just been born. That article can be read here.

These will ideally assist a person grasp the word better, and also understand that the mistaken man-made doctrine known as the ‘trinity’ does not agree with Holy Scripture.

Begin

Many might read the following passage, and mistakenly and incorrectly conclude that the angel of the LORD is G-d Himself;

‘Then the angel of God said… I am the God of Bethel…’
(Genesis 31:11‭, ‬31:13 ESV)

Potential Rebuttal:

A person might say ‘But didn’t the Angel of the LORD in Genesis 31:11‭, ‬31:13 say that he was the God of Bethel?’

Response:

Peaceabley, the actual context here is that ‘the angel of the LORD is not God Himself, but is rather speaking the words of God that it was given’.

See the link where a person who listens to the words that a servant of God speaks, are actually counted as listening to God’s words;

‘…I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them… whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.’
(Deuteronomy 18:18-19 ESV)

Also, see the link where the words that the angel says, are actually counted as the words that God has [already] said;

“But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
Exodus 23:22 ESV

See also another, which has the same context as these;

“The Spirit of the LORD speaks by me; his word is on my tongue.
2 Samuel 23:2 ESV

Hoping these verses which provide us with context for hard to understand verses such as Genesis 31:11‭, ‬31:13 and even the famous Moses and the burning bush account (Exodus 3), will be fruitful with you.

Hoping it is fruitful.

May the Holy G-d bless you beyond maximum believing in His risen Son the Lord Jesus Christ (Adonai Yehoshua HaMoshiach). Amen.
